A
brief history of the Faculty
The Papal Faculty of Theology in Poznań was founded on 2
June 1974 by a Decree of the Congregation for Catholic Education,
Posnaniensis urbs. Due to the political situation in Poland
at that time, it was impossible to found a faculty of theology
in a state-owned university. Therefore during the first
years after its creation, The Papal Faculty of Theology
was a part of the Archbishop's Theological Seminary in Poznań.
The Papal Faculty of Theology in Poznań adopted St. Adalbert
(św. Wojciech) as its patron saint, which was confirmed
by the Congregation of Catholic Education. The justification
of this decision was the strong aspiration of the Faculty
to fulfill the task of promoting Christian ideas and norms
of social life in order to serve the Church and all the
people of good will.
The Congregation of Catholic Education in a letter dated
26 June 1998 (Document: N. 124/98) formally agreed to establish
the Faculty of Theology in Adam Mickiewicz University in
Poznań.
On 19 June 1998 the Senate of Adam University in Poznań
voted in favor of establishing the Faculty of Theology at
the University.
