Adam
Mickiewicz University's presence in Kalisz dates back to
1984 when the Department of Early School Education was established
in Kalisz as AMU's branch. Two more departments were further
established: the Department of Musical Education and the
Department of Education in Fine Arts leading to the creation
of AMU's Pedagogy and Fine Arts College in 1991. In the
following years the number of the College's academic degree
holders (Ph.D, Ph.D. with habilitacja) increased significantly,
which resulted in the transforming of the College into the
Institute of Pedagogy and Fine Arts. The Institute developed
rapidly - new departments were opened and new courses of
study, supervised by other University faculties, were offered,
e.g. the Department of Modern Languages and Literature offered
an English Philology Course. The University Senate's resolution
of 25 March 2002 transformed the Institute into AMU's thirteenth
Faculty with many new departments added. This was the crowning
achievement of those people who had sought to develop university
education in Kalisz - Poland's oldest, and one of Wielkopolska'a
major, cities.
