A
brief history of the Faculty
The
Faculty was founded in 1975 when the Faculty of Philosophy
and History was divided into two separate units: The Faculty
of Social Sciences and the Faculty of History. At that time,
the Faculty of History comprised of the following:
- the Institute of History - created in the 1960's. by merging
the set of departments of history dating back to the foundation
of the University in 1919;
- the Institute of Archaeology, now of Prehistory, which
replaced the large Department of Archeology;
- the Institute of Art History;
- the Institute of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology.
- the Chair of Musicology - founded at Poznań University in 1922 and suspended in 1962,
the Department of Musicology was re-established at the Faculty of History in 1974.
Initially, it was part of the Institute of the History of Art only to be re-organized
as an independent Chair of Musicology in 2001.
- in 2000, the Faculty was strengthened when the Institute
of Eastern Studies was merged into it. The Institute was
founded in 1990 and it has been conducting courses since
1995.
